# Independent Investigations Division Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in the City of Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD - The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Baltimore. The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. when a Baltimore Police Department officer, while in a marked cruiser at a stop sign, encountered a man who approached the vehicle in a shopping center parking lot at the intersection of Erdman Avenue and Ravenwood Avenue.

According to preliminary findings, the man fled from the officer during their encounter. The officer initially pursued the individual in the cruiser before exiting the vehicle to continue the chase on foot. During this pursuit, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at the officer, prompting the officer to discharge their weapon, striking the man. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the man was transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the officer involved was reported to be unharmed.

The IID is urging anyone with information related to the incident, including cell phone or surveillance footage, to reach out at (410) 576-7070 or via email at IID@oag.maryland.gov. The IID plans to release the names of the involved officers within two business days, although this timeframe may be extended if necessary. No further details regarding the identity of the man in critical condition have been disclosed at this time.

The officer involved was equipped with a body-worn camera that recorded the incident. The video footage will be released in accordance with the policies of both the Baltimore Police Department and the IID. Under Maryland law, the Office of the Attorney General is mandated to investigate police-involved incidents that result in serious injury or death, and the IID will conduct its investigation concurrently with the Baltimore Police Department's obligations under a federal consent decree.
