MarylandFeed exists to give Maryland residents fast, accurate news. These are the standards we hold ourselves to.
Accuracy first
We would rather be right than first. We do not add claims, numbers, names or quotes our sources do not support, and we attribute statements to the agency, official or person who made them.
Independence
We are independent. We are not part of the State of Maryland or any agency we cover, and no agency reviews or approves our stories before they run. When we write that an agency "said" or "announced" something, we are reporting their statement, not endorsing it.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help with some of our work, such as drafting stories from official announcements. Our editors oversee and review our AI-assisted work, and the same standards and corrections policy apply to everything we publish.
If you spot a mistake, please tell us and we will fix it.
How we verify
We check names, dates, places, numbers and who said what against our sources. When a source corrects or withdraws its information, we update our story and note the change.
Sensitive stories
- We follow the source's own wording on outcomes. For example, we do not describe a missing person as found safe unless the source says so.
- For safety alerts, we pass along official instructions as the agency gave them and avoid adding our own advice.
- We are careful with the names of people who have been charged with a crime. A charge is not a conviction, and we say so.
Corrections
We correct errors quickly and openly. Read our corrections policy and see every correction we have published.
