Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Charles County
(WALDORF, MD), Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man in Charles County Thursday evening.
The deceased is identified as Michael Alexander, Jr., 36, of Bryans Road, Maryland. He was the operator of a Suzuki motorcycle involved in the crash. The driver of a Ford Taurus was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
At 10:34 p.m. on Thursday, troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to Maryland Route 228 at Greenwood Drive for a report of a motorcycle crash. The preliminary investigation indicates the Suzuki motorcycle, operated by Alexander, was traveling westbound MD Route 228, while at the same time, the Ford was attempting to make a left turn from eastbound MD Route 228 onto Greenwood Drive. The Suzuki subsequently crashed into the Ford. The impact of the crash caused the Ford to travel further onto Greenwood Drive where it then struck a Toyota Highlander parked in a residential driveway and then the residence. Police believe that excessive speeding may be a contributing circumstance in the crash.
Assistance on scene was provided by deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
Lanes were closed for more than two hours for the crash investigation. Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to contact Sergeant Justin Zimmerman at 301-392-1231. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
